April 12, 2005 Goddard Hot Springs Layover Day Day 43
Today I soaked in the hot springs not once, not twice, but three times. Not a cloud in the sky all day and the air is mostly still with the occasional cat’s paw stirring the waters of our island kingdom. I cooked up a huge breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, and oranges. A few bumblebees buzzed around the cockpit and came into the boat. The only sounds we could hear are the lazy humming bees and the bald eagles calling each other from various treetops around the bay. I went for a row through the archipelago tonight and was followed by several sea otters the whole way. Dusk and dawn are very long now that we are this far north. As I drifted through the islands and channels the sky darkened and I watched all the stars come out, one by one. Later we sat by the wood stove and then watched the northern lights.
